As Newry cityscape undergoes culinary evolution, the newly inaugurated Guru Indian Cuisine promises an authentic Indian dining experience with a modern twist. Situated on Kildare Street, the restaurant boasts a chic interior with an emphasis on providing Indian cuisine with a tapas twist – a trend that has seen surging popularity in Dublin recently.
Guru Barrot, the visionary behind this venture, collaborates with an experienced and skilled team. Head Chef Banti Kumar brings with him a rich background from the esteemed Oberoi hotel group. Shumaila Omer, managing the restaurant’s operations, lends her expertise from managing a family restaurant back in Pakistan.
The Guru Indian Cuisine fills a long-felt gap in the Newry culinary scene by offering an upscale spot where guests can indulge in a delightful cocktail, select wines, and sample Indian tapas. However, for those craving traditional Indian dishes, Guru ensures they are not left wanting.
With seating for approximately 70 guests, Guru effortlessly accommodates both casual diners and those seeking a more intimate dining experience. The aesthetic appeal of the establishment is evident with a breathtaking window table offering sweeping views of Sugar Island and the emblematic Newry Town Hall.
Esteemed Dublin Food Writer, Paul O’Connor, lauds the restaurant, emphasizing the capabilities of the team behind Guru. Recounting his experience from the launch night, he said, “With over 200 guests in attendance, the staff was under significant pressure. Yet, they delivered impeccably.”
He further added, praising the culinary expertise, “I’ve had the pleasure of dining in numerous Indian and other Asian establishments owing to my role as the head of the Asian Restaurant Awards in Ireland. The chef’s prowess in handling such a vast gathering was commendable. Guru isn’t just a local eatery; it’s a destination restaurant that beckons food enthusiasts.”
Guru Indian Cuisine extends its warm hospitality seven days a week, ensuring Newry and its vicinity have a new food haven to explore and relish.
