  5. Butter

Preparation

Step 1: Put the roast beef in a saucepan, add ½ cup of stock and cook for 10 minutes or until the liquid reduces significantly.

Step 2: Melt 1 tablespoon of butter, and add some onions, salt, and pepper to season. Sautee until slightly browned, and keep to rest.

Step 3: Preheat the oven to 375°F. Open the bread rolls and spread butter on the inside of each roll. Place the bread rolls on a baking tray and toast until they turn golden brown. Then remove the bread rolls from the oven and increase the temperature to 425°F.

Step 4: Using a pair of tongs, place the slices of roast beef on each bread roll. Next, top the roast beef with a slice of cheese (if you are using shredded cheese, sprinkle some on the roast beef) and place on the baking tray.

Step 5: Put the tray in the oven for about 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Remove the tray from the oven after 5 minutes and serve your roast beef sandwich. You can add more toppings like shredded lettuce, sautéed peppers, chopped fresh basil, horseradish, chopped chives, or mushrooms.

Note: Skip the first step if you like; it’s not compulsory.
