London Fog Recipe

To make a comforting London Fog, I start with 1 cup of boiling water and steep 1 teaspoon of loose Earl Grey tea or a tea bag for about 4 minutes. While it steeps, I warm up some milk and add a splash of vanilla extract. Once the tea is ready, I mix it with the steamed milk. This delightful drink warms my soul and connects me to its Vancouver origins. There’s so much more to explore about this tea!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 teaspoon of loose Earl Grey tea or 1 tea bag
  • 1-2 teaspoons of sugar or sweetener (optional)
  • Milk or cream (optional)
  • Lemon slice (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Begin by bringing 1 cup of water to a boil in a small saucepan or kettle.
  2. Once the water is boiling, remove it from the heat and let it sit for about 30 seconds to cool slightly; the ideal temperature for brewing Earl Grey is around 200°F (93°C).
  3. Add the loose Earl Grey tea or tea bag to the hot water. If using loose tea, consider using a tea infuser for easy removal later.
  4. Let the tea steep for 3-5 minutes, depending on how strong you like your tea. I personally enjoy a 4-minute steep for a perfect balance of flavor.
  5. Remove the tea bag or infuser and stir in the sugar or sweetener if desired.
  6. If you like your tea creamy, add a splash of milk or cream to taste. For a refreshing twist, you can also add a slice of lemon.
  7. Stir gently and enjoy your freshly brewed Earl Grey tea!

When preparing Earl Grey tea, I find that the key isn’t to rush the steeping process. The longer you let it sit, the more pronounced the bergamot flavor becomes, which is what makes this tea so special.

Additionally, experimenting with the amount of milk or lemon can really elevate the drink, so I encourage you to find your perfect balance.
