Shepherd’s Pie

Treat yourself to a taste of Europe right in your kitchen. A blend of succulent minced meat and vegetables baked with a topping of rich mashed potatoes, this dish promises a burst of flavors and textures in every bite.


  • 4 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 2 lbs Ground Beef
  • 4 tbsp Salt, divided
  • 4 tbsp Pepper, divided
  • 2 large White Onions, finely grated
  • 2 large Carrots, finely grated
  • 4 cloves Garlic, finely grated
  • 4 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 3 tbsp Tomato Paste
  • 2 cups Red Wine (Cabernet Sauvignon or Pinot Noir)
  • 4 sprigs Fresh Thyme, chopped
  • 2 sprigs Fresh Rosemary, chopped
  • 2 cups Chicken Stock
  • 4 lbs Russet Potatoes, washed, peeled & quartered
  • 4 tbsp Unsalted Butter
  • 4 Large Egg Yolks
  • 2.5 cups Parmesan, freshly shredded


Part 1 – “Mince”:

  1. Heat a large pan on high heat and add 4 tbsp of Olive Oil.
  2. Add the ground beef, season with 2 tbsp each of Salt & Pepper, and brown the meat thoroughly.
  3. Incorporate minced Onion, Garlic, and Carrot, cooking for about 4 minutes until vegetables are soft.
  4. Stir in the Worcestershire Sauce and Tomato Paste until well combined.
  5. Pour in the Red Wine, add Thyme and Rosemary, and let simmer until most of the wine has evaporated.
  6. Mix in the chicken stock and let cook for another 4 minutes.
  7. Turn off the heat and set the mixture aside.

Part 2 – “Potatoes”:

  1. In a pot, boil the potatoes for about 20 minutes and then drain.
  2. Mash the boiled potatoes using a fork or a masher.
  3. Season the mashed potatoes with the remaining 2 tbsp each of Salt & Pepper.
  4. Mix in butter, egg yolks, and 2 cups of the freshly-shredded Parmesan.

Part 3 – “Assembly”:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Pour the beef and vegetable mixture into a casserole dish.
  3. Evenly spread the mashed potatoes over the beef mixture using a spatula.
  4. Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of freshly-shredded parmesan over the potatoes.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  6. Let the Shepherd’s Pie cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
