Lasagna Rolls: A Delicious Twist on Classic Lasagna

Italian cuisine, with its rich flavors and comforting dishes, has always been a family favorite. While traditional lasagna is known for its layers of meat sauce, pasta, and cheese, this recipe for Lasagna Rolls offers a unique and delightful variation, making use of cream cheese and a roll-up presentation. These Lasagna Rolls are a bit more involved to assemble, but their delicious taste makes the effort well worth it. Serve them alongside garlic toast and a green vegetable for a complete and satisfying meal.

Lasagna Rolls Recipe:

  • 1 pound mild or sage Italian bulk sausage
  • 1 (8-ounce) package plus 1 (3-ounce) package cream cheese, cubed
  • 6 green onions, chopped
  • 1 green pepper, diced
  • 1 (26-ounce) jar spaghetti sauce
  • 10 lasagna noodles, uncooked
  • 1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium-size heavy skillet, brown the Italian sausage over low heat. Once cooked, crumble the sausage and drain off excess fat.
  3. Add the cubes of cream cheese to the skillet with the cooked sausage. Stir and cook over low heat until the cream cheese is melted and well combined. Stir in the chopped green onions and diced green pepper, then remove the mixture from heat.
  4. Spread half of the spaghetti sauce on the bottom of the prepared baking dish, and set it aside.
  5. Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package directions. Once cooked, remove from heat and keep them in water to prevent sticking.
  6. On a cutting board, lay out one lasagna noodle at a time. Spread several tablespoons of the sausage and cream cheese mixture evenly over the noodle, leaving about 1 inch from the end. Carefully roll up the noodle, enclosing the meat mixture inside. Place the rolled noodle seam-side down on top of the spaghetti sauce in the baking dish.
  7. Repeat the rolling process with the remaining noodles and meat mixture, arranging the rolled noodles side by side in the baking dish.
  8. Pour the reserved spaghetti sauce over the top of the lasagna rolls, ensuring they are well coated. Evenly sprinkle shredded Mozzarella cheese over all the rolls, followed by a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese.
  9. Bake the Lasagna Rolls in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the rolls are heated through.
  10. When serving, consider sprinkling additional Parmesan cheese on top of each individual lasagna roll for extra flavor.
